I don’t know that I’ll every be fully seduced by the “Jersey Boys,” which plays through Feb. 19 at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall in Fort Myers. I do know that it’s the slickest, glossiest and best-packaged piece of entertainment you’re likely to see outside of The great White Way.

Every single piece of the show – which loops through the rise to fame of Frankie Valli and the four Seasons – operates at the highest levels of flash-bang, razzle-dazzle, boom-boom kapow wow professionalism.

Voices? You want voices? You got voices! Joseph Leo Bwarie – the show’s main Frankie Valli – can, would and should shame any two-bit pretender who squawks on a television for their 15 seconds of fame. his voice feels like honey rolling across the softest velvet as it flows out into the hall; pick a song – any song, it doesn’t matter – put a mic in his hand and you’ve got sonic pleasure.

Acting? You want acting? You got acting! Preston Truman Boyd leaps from playing the Monster in “Young Frankenstein” to a sensitive, nuanced and altogether brilliant turn as songwriter and keyboardist Bob Gaudio. his awkward, scrubbed-face portrayal and towering stage presence lifts the character to equal footing with the Frankie Valli character. Boyd gives Gaudio all the heart of the story. Jonathan Hadley (he and Bwarie were here in 2010 too) delivers an underrated turn as record producer Bob Crewe.

Music? You want music? You got music! ten musicians pour everything they’ve got – and more – into 33 songs from the wide and deep Valli and four Seasons catalogs. five #1 hits, including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk like a Man,” and “December, 1963 (Oh, what a Night),” excite the crowd. Friday night featured whoops, hollers and dancing in the seats and aisles. Close your eyes and listen; these tunes were meant to be experienced live.

Sets? Costumes? You want sets? You got a set! And enough suits to open a store. A two-story steel walkway wraps around the stage, offering a home to musicians, singers, dancers and even prostitutes. Cars fly in from overhead; every moment of the show is in MOTION! Gigantic screens project Roy Lichtenstein-inspired pop-art projections. Prepare to be blinded when a bank of concert lights hammers out watt upon watt of electric excitement. There are a 102 shirts in the show; Frankie changes clothes 15 times.

What else do you need? There’s a story there – even if the writers took a few liberties. each of the principal characters – Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito (a hawk-like, hungry John Gardiner) and taciturn Nick Massi (a rangy, aquiline Micheal Lomenda) – take turns offering their “versions” of events. There’s humor – especially when a wonderfully subtle Lomenda finally gets dialogue.

So, what’s the problem? for me, “Jersey Boys” has all the emotional heft of reading a dusty history book. or maybe a Wikipedia page. The all-sizzle show drops a nugget of “history,” serves of a slice of a song, maybe two lines of dialogue and repeats that formula much of the night. It’s a fabulous concert – but little more.

“Jersey Boys” might be the purest, most brilliantly distilled form of entertainment out there, but the show doesn’t actually take the audience on any sort of dramatic journey. it tells a story (awfully well) and plays gorgeous music (better than almost anything I’ve seen) – but there’s almost nothing passionate or heartfelt underneath the razzle-dazzle.

Every piece of “Jersey Boys” means to make the audience think “we’re seeing a SHOW!” A whiplash pace can make every moment of the show feel calculated, precise and at times even mechanically cold, as if the performers were just singing puppets hitting specific marks and blurting out the eight words needed to move us to the next song.

Virtually the only genuinely moving scene comes when Valli realizes that his life on the road has destroyed his first family; Bwarie sits on a bench, his back half-turned from the audience and sings “Fallen Angel” after a priest consoles him.

“Jersey Boys” serves up one stellar, dazzling, smashing, flashy, sumptuous meal of frothy style, marvelous music and basic biopic. Joseph Leo Bwarie pours heart, soul and amazingly talented voice into the music of Frankie Valli and the four Seasons. I liked it. You’ll love it.

The performance chip or tuner is a way to reprogram the internal computer inside a vehicle. most vehicles have the capability to use one of these chips or tuners and the 2010 Camaros are no exception to this. one may ask the question, is there a large selection to choose from or is it one of those things that one choice is all that is available? The answer to that question is yes there are many different options, and with all of the different options come different benefits catering to every individuals needs. Today we will just cover three of many choices but most of them will be very similar in their performance and increase in efficiency.

The first that we will cover is the Diablo Sport Predator. The Diablo Sport name was founded in 2000 and has continued to be a leader in the Performance chips and tuners industry since. Diablo Sport has claimed performance increase of 20+ horse power and 20+ ft/lbs of torque on the new 2010 Camaro L99 with the automatic transmission and they even do a little better on the LS3 motor with the manual transmission. They’ll boost the LS3 by about 25 on both. with gains of 1-3 mpg fuel efficiency as long as you aren’t racing around town. Installing the Diablo Sport will only take about 10 minutes with an on screen display that practically walks you right through the install. they do not void any warranties that may be available from Chevrolet, and they come with a 2 year manufacturer warranty of their own.

If you want or need to restore the original programming it is just as easy as installing the reprogrammed one. You just go through the exact same steps and choose the stock setting. There’s also another fancy little feature of the diablosport predator on the 2010 Camaros with the L99 automatic. when you put the car in cruise control, it shuts down four of the cylinders to get better gas mileage. The only problem with that is the car doesn’t sound the same anymore. with the diablo, you can disable that feature, making it run on all 8 cylinders all the time.

The second tuner on the agenda is the Hypertech Max Energy for the 2010 Camaro. The Max Energy Power Programmer extracts every bit of energy possible. with this nifty little tuner you have the power to boost horse power and torque, improve gas mileage, raise top speed limiter, raise the RPM rev limiter, recalibrate speedometer, read, and display and clear DTCs.

They are internet updateable with the USB included and they are legal in all 50 states. In most cases 12 horse power and 20 ft/lbs of torque are common giving the Camaro better in traffic response time. Just like the Diablo Sport you can expect 1-3 mpg fuel efficiency. Also this product does not void the factory warranty with a 1 year warranty of its own. they include two performance tunes for either 91 octane or 93 octane fuel. although hypertech puts out a nice product, most people go the way of the diablo instead because the features are close to identical, but the power gains of the diablo are bigger.

The third and final for today is the Jet Performance 2010 Camaro Performance Chip. Jet Performance has been doing what they do for over 40 years. they are committed to give the consumer what he or she really wants. more power. The Jet Performance programming is designed to burn fuel at peak efficiency, which results in improved performance and mileage.

Jet Performance boasts about their gains for the Camaro of 15+ Horse power. Fuel and timing curves are modified for optimal performance and mileage using less expensive, lower octane fuels. Just like the other two you do have the possibility of up to an extra 3 miles per gallon, it will require a little discipline on the driver’s part, keep the foot off the floor. Installing it is easy, in less than 10 minutes of installing the chip and there you’re off to play. they also offer their one year warranty against defects. they have two different versions of the chip available. There’s a stage one chip, that is designed for stock 2010 camaros. they have a stage two also, that is designed for modded 2010 camaros, that have other mild boltons like a cold air intake, headers, exhaust, or others. The nice thing about the tuners is they work on stock or modified engines, but if you know what you need, the jet chips are also a great way to go.

Tuning is the easiest of the aftermarket upgrades for the 2010 Camaros, and the nice thing is they work together with any other parts you add to give even bigger gains. So if you have a tuner that gives 20 hp and an air intake that gives 20 hp, you’ll gain more than 40 by using both items, because they work together. this makes the performance market even funner once you get further in.

Back many years ago, I was looking for a convergence device as well. I was carrying a MP3 player, a GameBoy, an address book and calendar with notepaper, and a watch with alarms on it. I replaced that mess with the Handspring Visor Deluxe (Ice) and a few of the Smart Modules that went with it (especially the EyeModule camera).

Over the years, it or one of its later cousin upgrades did what I wanted- often with a portable keyboard for notetaking. now, for some reason I am not real sure about, I have a laptop, tablet, smartphone, camera, and bunch of odds and ends to haul with them (cables, speakers, battery packs, folding keyboard…)

If I am absolutely honest with myself, I can really do about 80-95% of the work with just the smartphone, folding keyboard, and a battery pack (the kind with the folding plug and USB port). then it mostly becomes a matter of the right mix of apps and cloud.

Of course, there are a lot of things that are BETTER/EASIER on a different device, but the main things I cannot do easily on this set up are ‘artistic’ photography, good image manipulation or creation, or really enjoy movies and some websites.

Nintendo DSi is the next generation of Nintendo handheld gaming device. with loads of new features, the new Nintendo Dsi is all set to take the market by a storm. Wi-Fi, dual VGA camera with a decent picture quality, audio player with recorder has all new sleek and buttoned down looks with ergonomics plus a dedicated memory slot. It has everything that its predecessor the Nintendo DS lacked.

With Nintendo DSi you can not only download movies, songs, games and pictures but can also store them on the memory stick. If this is not enough, you can add affects to your downloaded music by adding echoes and changing the pitch and speed. There is a significant improvement in the sound quality with new superior speakers. MP3 is now made a standard feature using integrated SD card slot.

The new Nintendo has two cameras incorporated in it, one facing the user between the screens other outside on the casing. You can now use your Nintendo DSi for chatting and can also use its camera for video chat. another unique feature is picture modification. You can modify the pictures taken by your Nintendo DSi using various available options. as compared to the Nintendo DS, it has a bigger 3.25 inches LCD screen. despite a larger screen the dimensions of the DSi are same as the DS. This new 3.25 inch touch screen has five brightness levels as compared to four in DS.

Though it still houses the same ARM9 processor but now works at 133MHz which is twice as fast as the processor in Nintendo DS Lite. as compared to 4MB memory of DS Lite the new DSu is loaded with a new 16 MB RAM memory. Wi Fi still has the same 802.11 wireless connectivity. I like to listen to music and podcasts when I travel and when I am working mobile, and good headphones are a must. I have a good pair of Sennheiser earbuds, but my preference is over-the-ear headphones for comfort, and wireless for convenience. That led me to pick up a pair of Jabra Halo Bluetooth headphones, and I am glad I did.

Jabra is famous for Bluetooth headsets for use with phones, so I knew their technology is good. what attracted me to the Halo headphones is the design with comfort in mind, along with the hidden microphone for use on calls. even though I plan on using the headphones with either the iPad 2 or laptop, it is convenient to be able to use the Jabra on video calls.

The design of the Halo is great, as the unit is as light as can be. the small ear covers are comfortable to wear for long periods, and fully adjustable for a good fit. These headphones don’t look as dorky as most over-the-ear phones tend to look. They fold for easy transport, and ship with a carrying pouch.

Pairing the Halo to the iPad 2 was very easy. I unfolded the headphones, and locked them in the open position. This automatically turns on the Bluetooth radio, and the first time put it into pairing mode. They paired with the iPad without incident, and I was listening to tunes. Folding the headphones turns off the Bluetooth radio.

The Halo has a button on the right ear cup for pausing and resuming audio streaming. This is also used for answering/ ending phone calls when paired with a phone. there is a nice touch volume control on this ear cup. Sliding a finger up the side of the ear cup raises the volume and sliding the finger down lowers it.

There are two small LED indicators on the inside of the headband on the right. the red indicator is used when charging the battery via the included microUSB adapter, and the blue indicator for showing Bluetooth activity.

The volume on the Halo is quite loud, a must for me with headphones. I like to push the volume high on occasion, and that’s possible with the Halo.

A nice feature of the Jabra Halo is the inclusion of a cable for using the headphones plugged into a 3.5mm audio jack. This makes it possible to use even when the battery runs down (estimated 8 hour listen time), or more importantly during flights when Bluetooth operation is not allowed. I keep the microUSB-to-audio jack cable in the pouch for easy accessibility for these times.

The audio quality of the Halo won’t compete with super high-end headphones, but is decent for everyday use. the Bluetooth range is quite good too, so it’s possible to listen while walking around the music source.

The Jabra Halo is about $90 so it’s not the cheapest wireless headphones available, but I find them to be a good value. Jabra also has a newer model, the Halo 2, for about the same price. This newer model was not available when I purchased the Halo online.

Princess Cut furrowed her eyebrows as she pushed keys on her laptop, then the wax on her turntables. “No sound,” she said into the mic, summoning the production crew to her side.

Before BET unveiled its second season winner of “Master of the Mix” — essentially an “American Idol”-style competition for turntablists — it challenged a seemingly random selection of seven local DJs to face a similar wringer inside event space Le Fais Do-Do on Saturday night. Princess Cut was standing in front of a few hundred people, which included the show’s notable judges’ panel: first season contestant Vikter Duplaix, former Def Comedy Jam resident turntablist Kid Capri, professional partier Amber Rose, and producer Just Blaze.

Since each Atlanta DJ only had two minutes to spin a winning set, the judges were quick to call out attention-grabbing tricks that didn’t require either of the turntables. during soundcheck, DJ Southanbred plugged in a brand-new kitchen blender; and in the minutes he had to perform, he exerted more energy ducking under the table to retrieve pre-cut smoothie ingredients than actually spinning and scratching. “I’d like to wait until the end,” Duplaix said when initially asked to deliberate.

The strongest sets didn’t employ a household appliance or even super obvious pandering, such as Cypha’s playing of Amber Rose’s debut single “Fame.” after just a second-long soundcheck and then a smirk plastered on his face, DiBiase spun a deeper groove into Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” before he flicked his fingers on the wax, his scratches satisfyingly squeaky.

And after DJ Era spiked up the Dr. Dre-produced, 50 Cent hit “In Da Club” with the start of Jay-Z’s “Public Service Announcement” (“allow me to reintroduce myself”), his hands darted back and forth between the two turntables in front of him as his eyes fixated on his laptop screen, constantly in pursuit of perfect timing.“What I don’t like is when a DJ looks at his computer the whole set,” Kid Capri told Era. “What I did like was that it was the best set of the night.”

Era ended up winning the competition, earning $500 in cash, his own V103 commercial and an hour-long set on “Frank and Wanda in the Morning” — but not before the judges nodded to formidable efforts from other contestants. Just Blaze commended Genesis’ wide-ranging song selection, which coasted from Crazy Town’s “Butterfly” to Daft Punk’s “something About Us” despite his inaudible scratches. and even after a two-minute soundcheck, Princess Cut’s biggest obstacle was the lack of sound itself, which still didn’t distract from the biggest trick of her set.

“did I see a titty scratch?” Duplaix said.

“I thought I saw a titty scratch,” Kid Capri said.

Finally, Amber Rose chimed in — “titties are fun” — but it was cold comfort in comparison.
